Inclusion & Belonging at SMART

LGBTQ+ individuals often navigate unique experiences with shame, stigma, identity, substance use, and community that can meaningfully shape their recovery journey. This session will explore practical ways SMART Recovery facilitators can create more affirming, inclusive, and culturally responsive spaces for LGBTQ+ participants. Topics will include LGBTQ+ identity and belonging, the role of language and assumptions in meetings, and an introduction to chemsex and its relevance within some queer communities, with a focus on compassion, harm reduction, and authentic connection.
